The Life and Times of Me

Well I had this week off work which turned out to be a bit of good luck because on Sunday night I broke my little toe (and I don't want any sympathy because it was entirely my fault, what did I think would happen if I kick something hard several times).

So I have had some time on my hands. I have read a book (the time traveler's wife) which was excellent although a little weird. I have just started reading Nick Hornby's A Long way down. Only read a few pages of that.

I also watch Colin Firth in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice and the the Kiera Knightly one. I have made a list of why the latter one is soooooooooooo RUBBISH!
1. Keira Knightly is not Lizzie Bennet, why would she be flat chested and sooooo skinny?
2. Costumes(this has several parts to it):
a) yes the Bennets and their relatives were not the richest people but they did hang out with society and so they would not have worn such unfashionable clothing, the mother was probably 20 years out of dad!
b) Miss Bingley wears a sleeveless dress, I don't think that that would have happened
c) Lizzie Bennet prancing about with her hair down? Once a girl was out in society she would not be seen in public with hair down, it would always be up
3. The dialog (again several parts)
a) some of it is not is the book but has been taken straight from the Beeb version
b) too much informality (most notably when Lizzie on her first meeting with Darcy walks straight but to him and says "do you dance?"). Also lots of calling Lizzie Miss Elizabeth when none of her other sisters were with her (when of course she should Miss Bennet).
4. They make Lizzie and Darcy start fall in love with each other as soon as they meet. Yes make Lizzie seem upset by the "not hansom enough to tempt me" comment rather than finding it funny.

I think I am done with my complaining. I might think of other things to add to the list.

Oooh the saga of the reading record continues. Ex-wife has been correcting my spelling mistakes "what sort of example is she setting?" she asked about me. I will not tell you the reply she got because it was rubbish.
